EU-Bike

EU-bike is a bike renting service based in Stockholm with the target group being both tourists and people living in the city. Their main competitors are Lime and scooter companies. This was a individual student project while I was studying UX-design.

Eu-bike has had some bad reputation for gathering not necessary data from their customers which has been reviewed and changed by them. They also have a problem with visibility and customers knowing about them even existing and therefor not using their product. The brief was to review their current app, improve it and come up with a solution that would drive more customers to their product.

The process

I approached the task with desk research, looking at competitors, interviews, and user testing. Based on this I chose to focus on the target group of tourists. After the interviews I clustered the insights from the users, from that I developed a persona to lean on during the project. I did an empathy map to get to know my persona even more and come up with solutions for their needs. After I came up with my solutions I made the exercise of doing an MVP to learn how to prioritize and see what is feasible in a project like this.

The outcome

New concept, visual identity and name for EU-bike. Since the service is used in Stockholm the name EU-bike didnt make a connection for the interview objects. But to keep the word “bike” in the name was of value since the users identified with making an active decision on taking the bike instead of other transportations. This is how the name “Bike Rider” came up instead.

The new concept for the app is that it will have a function to provide you with a route of destinations to visit in the city. This is an easy way to stand out from their competitors by providing the users with inspiration and suggestions for experiences that they will carry with them and remember. This creates an emotional connection between the user and Bike Rider and memories for them to bring home from their vacation or bikeride.

Learnings

During this project, I got to try to create personas and use an empathy map to understand the user’s needs better and base your decision on those. I also learned about MVP and how to prioritize and select what functions are most valuable for the product and the end-user.
